Above it, on metal carriers carve into the rock, bridges and stairs are made for passing through canyon.
Entrance into a canyon is near Planinarski dom (mountain lodge). At the end of the canyon is a cave called “Muževa hižica”. It is long about two hundred meters and rich with stalagmites, and at the end of the cave is a small lake. The cave is not illuminated.
The resort Zeleni vir (Green whirlpool) is named after a strong spring at the bottom of a shallow spacious cave over whose entrance overhangs a vertical rocks high 70 meters and along them crashes a waterfall creating a shining water curtain. Zeleni vir get it name after the greenish color of water in a lakelet which appear in a cave. To reach this cave with spring is possible by a narrow steep path along the hydro power plant that has existed in Zeleni vir since 1921.

Visitors can come to Zeleni vir by several ways.
The first way is, from Skrad center turn left from the state road D3 Rijeka – Zagreb, and descend approx. 8 km on tarmac steep road to the excursion site itself.

If you want to hike, we recommend you to leave a car near the PINS facility across the railway station in Skrad, and walk on foot by the steep forest trail to the excursion site. To get to the Zeleni vir you need about 40 minutes’ walk. Then you can refresh in a mountain lodge at the excursion site and return through the canyon of Vražji prolaz (Devils passage) by the forest trail back to Skrad. For this walk approx. 1.30 to 2 hours of walking is needed.
